This year we had a very nice Halloween! We carved the pumpkins on Hallows Eve and Anika ran around in her Minnie Mouse costume, she was so... excited. John was off on Halloween as was Lexi, for teacher something day. Lexi basically goes to school 4 days a week, because they are always having some type of teacher day. Alexis dressed up as a roller blading (note to self, not a good idea for next year) Sharpei, from High School Musical and Zander was Scooby Doo although he called himself Lola, which is the name of my Mom and Dad's dog/child. Alexander thinks all dogs are Lola and just loves dogs. He has no idea who Scooby Doo is, but I knew he would like Scobby Doo "the dog". John dressed up as a chef and I dressed up as a mommy of 3. Original, hugh!
On Halloween night the gates of the base opened up at 1800 to the Japanese Nationals and thousands of Japanese children and parents came pouring in. We have 4 different housing areas on base, but still have difficulty having enough candy for the kids. Unless you spend and entire paycheck on candy, it is just not possible to have enough candy to pass out for a 2 hour time period. So I made an executive decision to hang a note on our door stating we would return at 1900 and we took the kids Trick or Treating for an hour. Lexi brought her friends Ivy and Alexis along.
Anika picked up where she left off last year and Alexander quickly learned the routine of saying Trick or Treat and of course, "Thank You! We returned to the house and barely got our foot in the door before we were swarmed by Trick or Treaters, literally. We had a never ending stream of Trick or Treaters actually in line to Trick or Treat and then they moved on to the next door. I think the kids enjoyed passing out the candy more than Trick or Treating. Alexis preferred passing out candy, when she was Zander and Anika's age, over Trick or Treating. We went through all our candy within 20 minutes and then battened down the hatches and turned off our light.
Lexi, Alexis B. and Ivy dumped all their candy out on the kitchen floor and took inventory of their stash. They did some trading and went upstairs to play barbies. Anika and Zander had their first taste of candy in a long time and ran in circles in the house. It was a good night had by all.
