Today I hosted a Traditional Christmas Dinner at lunchtime. I had the ladies from the Japanese/American Culture Group I belong to come over. Many of the Japanese women had not been to an American style home let alone a home decorated in Christmas gear. They went crazy, they must have taken a hundred photos between the 7 Japanese women that came. In addition there were 5 women from the American side of the group that came. I made our traditional Christmas family meal of a standing rib roast, Yorkshire Pudding with aujus, green bean casserole and I tried a new addition to the meal of our families scalloped potato dish, which I have never made before. I have a new Pampered Chef dessert recipe that is out of this world. It is a silky chocolate torte. Give it a try, it won't disappoint.
Everyone ate a lot, which is not common for Japanese women. It was just SO..... much fun to introduce the women to all these different Christmas traditions. Christmas stockings, the tree, the dinner, Department 56 Christmas things. I gave a present of hand carved Wise Men, so I could introduce the the REAL reason we celebrate Christmas. It was amazing to see the excitement on their face. Afterwards we had a gift exchange, which I received a beautiful, Japanese jewelry box and a silk handbag.
Before the ladies came over they were at my friend Dianalyn's house decorating Christmas cookies and making gingerbread houses out of graham cracker's.
Okay, I forgot to take pictures, because I was so busy getting everything ready and serving the meal, but I am sure I can get a few photos sent to me from my Japanese friends.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Beautiful pictures. What an awesome experience with the ladies! I got such a tickle out of your post (I can visualize it - meaning the picture taking and all). How fun! :)
